Bringing families back together in a safe manner.
The rescue centre was established over a decade ago, with a purpose of immidiate care offering emergency support for children facing difficult circumstances, such as neglect or lack of parental care. The primary goal is to provide a secure environment where children receive essential protection in the short term. During this time, the organization coordinates with government social services and community partners to determine the best long-term living arrangements for each child.

Challenges in the Community
While traditional customs often involve extended families supporting children in need, several factors make this challenging in the Kibera area:
- Economic and Health Factors: High levels of poverty and health crises can limit the ability of extended families to provide additional care.
- Migration: Many residents move to the city from rural areas for work, distancing them from their traditional support networks. This geographical separation makes it difficult to locate and verify relatives who can provide a stable home.
Rebuilding Family Connections
Despite these obstacles, through the rescue center the organization prioritizes reconnecting children with their families through a careful, step-by-step process:
- Identification: Social workers identify immediate or extended family members and assess their circumstances.
- Engagement: The center facilitates communication and encourages family members to visit the children to rebuild emotional bonds.
- Transition: In some cases, this leads to a child returning to their family. The organization often continues to assist these families by covering educational expenses ,financial and emotinal support structures.
Future Support Networks
If a safe family reunification is not possible, children remain at the center. In these instances, the focus shifts to creating a robust support network. The goal is to ensure that by the time a
young person reaches adulthood and leaves the center, they have established meaningful relationships and a community to rely on.
Throughout this process, the safety and well-being of the children remain the highest priority. Thorough assessments are conducted before any family visits, and the perspectives of the children
are always considered in decisions regarding their long-term care.
